Za’atar is a blend of dried toasted thyme, marjoram, oregano, sesame seeds and sumac. This spice blend is originally from the Middle East. The most popular way to eat Za’atar is on Manakish (flatbread topped with a mixture of za’atar, olive oil and lemon juice, baked in a high-heat oven). It can also be sprinkled over eggs, shakshuka, roasted vegetables, bagels or hummus.
